Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are to go
on a two-week tour of the Middle East and India, officials said
yesterday.
The Prince of Wales and the former Camilla Parker Bowles are to begin
their trip _ their second official tour together _ on Monday, visiting
Egypt, Saudi Arabia and India.
The visit will aim to better Britain’s international profile, promote
interfaith tolerance and push the prince’s environmental initiatives,
said a statement from Clarence House, Charles’ office.
The royals will start their visit in Egypt, where they are to lay a
wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in El Alamein and attend
an exhibition of Islamic art, Clarence House said. From there, they
will travel to Saudi Arabia to attend meetings focusing on education
and work training.
Their tour wraps up in India, where Charles and Camilla will attend the
British High Commissioner’s annual reception for diplomats, politicians
and businessmen. Clarence House said the prince is expected to discuss
his ideas for sustainable farming, water conservation and employment.
The couple’s first official foreign trip together was to the US in
November, where the newlyweds met with stars like Sting and Yoko Ono in
New York, and attended a dinner at the White House with George Bush and
Laura.
