The Supreme Islamic Council which represents both sects in Bahrain, yesterday
called for the continuation of the offering of prayers especially the Friday
prayers.
In a statement, the council said that any move by anybody to prevent people
from offering the Friday prayers that had been preserved by Islam would be
an obstruction to an important duty specified by Islam.
The council stressed that whoever had advocated prevention of this right
had done it without any proof or basis in Islam and as a protest against
the new law for political societies. The council also warned against exploiting
religious practices for political gains and stressed that religion must be
respected and protected.
