Ceramist to hold his first solo exhibition tomorrow

CERAMIST, Abdulrasool Al Ghayeb will hold his first solo art exhibition tomorrow at the Art Centre near the Bahrain National Museum, writes Naila Barakat.
Al Ghayeb has taken part in many joint exhibitions in Bahrain and abroad and mainly in the Information Ministry’s annual event but this is his first solo show ever.
“In the exhibition, my artworks will showcase 97 pieces of ceramic and sculptures works. There are 34 pieces of ceramic wall tiles, all consisting of different designs and the rest of the exhibits includes sculptures,” he said.
“The most interesting pieces among the sculptures are the faces made in the image of Chinese people. Actually in August last year I went to China and I was so much impressed with their different face cut and looks that I started doing faces in sculptures.”
Some of the other sculptures he has done are birds, old houses, buildings and Quranic verses. “I have also done the face sculpture of a very eminent personality – the late Ebrahim Al Orayed. I had earlier made a bronze sculpture in his memory and now a ceramic one,” he said.
Al Ghayeb is a member of Bahrain Potters Society. He completed his higher studies in the field of art in Egypt in 1981.
“After completing my studies, I came to Bahrain and started to work with the Bahrain National Museum. Later in 1983 I joined the Ministry of Education as an arts teacher. At present, I am teaching at Al Khalil bin Ahmed Intermediate School for Boys in Karzakan,” he added.
“Along with my teaching career, I am also concentrating on my development in contemporary arts.”
The event, organised by the Directorate of Culture and Arts, will be held under the patronage of the Minister of Information, Nabeel bin Yacoub Al Hamer.
