Syrian Days in Bahrain to focus on heritage, culture

By Naila Barakat: SYRIAN Days in Bahrain, a cultural extravaganza of heritage, music, tourism, and fashion, will be held on May 9-12.
The event, which is yet another cultural exchange in the years-long friendship between Bahrain and Syria, is organised by the Ministry of Information and the Syrian Ministry of Tourism.
Under the patronage of the Minister of Information, Nabeel bin Yacoub Al Hamer, and the Syrian Minister of Tourism, Dr Saadullah Al Kalgala, the show will start at the Sheraton Hotel at 7 pm, the director of public relations at the Ministry of Information, Ebrahim Noor, said.
“Bahrain and Syria share years-long fraternal relations, and the event is part of cultural exchanges. The show will highlight the cultural and tourist attractions in Syria and showcase many handicrafts with demonstrations,” he said.
“Bahrain also plans to hold a similar event in Syria in the near future. The show is organised by the tourism affairs, the public relations directorate and the Syrian embassy,” he said.
Noor said that the inaugural ceremony, to be attended by invitees, will feature Syrian folklore dances by a 15-member troupe, followed by a fashion show of traditional garments by scores of models from Syria. “Following the ceremony, a Syrian food festival will open at the hotel. On Monday, a wide array of handicrafts will be showcased at Bahrain National Museum at 7 pm, with demonstrations of pottery-making, weaving, and jalabiyas. An exhibition of photographs of heritage and tourist sites will also be held.
Noor said that on Tuesday the same event will continue at the museum from 9am to 2pm. In the evening, identical activities including an exhibition, a fashion show and a folk dance, will be held for women only. On the concluding day on May 12, the event will be open to the public, with a fashion show and folklore dance at 7.30pm.
